Juan Corradi Returns Artifacts to Tysnes, Norway

Recognition of the “Norwegian Steam” in the America’s Cup

On April 10, 2022, NAS Member Juan Corradi flew to Norway to return several objects on loan from the Tysnes Yacht Museum.  These artifacts were on display in the 2019 exhibition titled “Finding Crew: from Charlie Barr to Mike Vanderbilt”, which featured the participation of more than 200 sailors from the island of Tysnes in the America’s Cup between 1893 and 1937. They were called “The Norwegian Steam.”  With the support of the NYYC Heritage Coordinating Committee, Corradi delivered a scroll of recognition to the Tysnes Museum, signed by the flag officers in charge during the 175th Anniversary of the Club.  The picture below shows the presentation of the collections and the scroll, in the company of descendants from the old Norwegian sailors, and the mayor of Tysnes.
