The Blunt White Trophy

The trophy is a perpetual trophy in memory of our member, past Post Captain and Governor, G. W. Blunt White of Mystic, Connecticut.  The Blunt White Trophy is awarded at the discretion of the Governing Board of the North American Station of the Royal Scandinavian Yacht Club and Nyländska Jaktklubben to a member of this Station who has brought distinction to the Station by meritorious service, outstanding seamanship, outstanding performance in long distance racing or cruising, outstanding sportsmanship, the effective organization of an official activity of the station, or any combination of these phases of yachting, performed after May 1, 1962.

The trophy was established by members of The North American Station.  It was designed by the founder of this station, Count Pehr Sparre.  The trophy is a silver bell suspended in a gallows frame.  The bell was cast in silver by a famous jeweler in Stockholm, Sweden.

The award may be made as often as annually at the Annual Meeting of the Station, but the award need not be made each year.

The name of the recipient of an award of the trophy shall be suitably engraved on the trophy or its base.  A unanimous vote of the Governing Board present at any meeting duly called shall determine a recipient.

In the event this Station shall dissolve or become inactive, the Secretary shall surrender custody of the trophy to the Trustees of the New York Yacht Club for such disposition or use as they may deem proper and appropriate but in no event shall this trophy be allowed to fall into the hands of anyone other than a gentleman and a sailor.

If in any year the Governing Board determines it to be in the best interest of perpetuating the intent of this award, it may by unanimous vote at a duly called meeting of the board, amend, alter or rescind any of the terms of this dedication without notice to or consent of the donors of the trophy.
