The Post Captains’ Trophy

The Post Captains’ Trophy is a perpetual trophy awarded to a yacht owned by a member of the North American Station of the Royal Scandinavian Yacht Clubs and Nyländska Jaktklubben that has distinguished itself in an extraordinarily outstanding manner in ocean racing or cruising. The Post Captains’ Trophy may be presented from time to time as the incumbent Post Captain and former post captains may decide. In addition, the Board of Governors may select a race for which the award may be made.

The incumbent Post Captain of the Station shall present the trophy to the owner of the yacht winning the award. The names of the post captains shall be engraved on the trophy, and the name of the winning yacht shall be engraved on the shields lining the sides of the trophy. The trophy, it shall be noted, is awarded to the yacht, not to the owner, and the owner’s name may not be engraved on the trophy.

The Secretary of the Station may have possession of the trophy by written request addressed to the owner of the last yacht to whom it has been awarded.

Originally the Post Captains’ Trophy was an overall performance award presented to a member of the Station or of any of the Home Clubs for international ocean races. Donated in 1972 by former and past post captains, the trophy is in the shape of a Viking ship and is sterling silver set in wood.
